Like most creation stories, Gates of O'brillin came about by accident. Miss Brenda's career goal was to become a music publicist. That dream was sidelined by a 12 year stint in the real world of retail. In 2009 Miss Brenda found herself almost 40 and unemployed. Time to follow her dream. The next year and a half were spent promoting some of South Carolina's finest with a partner who did their booking. When he moved out of state she was forced to start over again. This time Miss Brenda knew what she wanted. She wanted a career that was her own.
Miss Brenda has always been artistic so for Halloween of 2011 she created accessories for a Steampunk costume. Several people asked where they came from and an idea was born. By Christmas she had product in local gift shops. Soon she started doing conventions and joining local artists guilds. Miss Brenda took the skills she had used for decades to promote others and turned them to herself and Gates of O'brillin.
Miss Brenda and Lady Jai have been friends and worked together off and on for over 20 years. Lady Jai started helping out at events and soon her talents were added to Gates of O'brillin. Together they are slowly growing the business. While most of the pieces are made individually, Lady Jai and Miss Brenda occasionally collaborate on a special piece. Their styles are a little different but complement each other. Check out each artists portfolio.
